About
Tucked away in the suburbs of London the band hails from Egham - a small town in Surrey where lots of people live, but not much happens. The band was formed from three students at Royal Holloway, University of London (RHUL) who at first just wanted other people to jam with, however, this has now developed into something much more. From starting out as a three piece acoustic band playing numerous covers the band now boasts up to 5 members playing solely original content.
At present the band consists of James Marsden (Vocals/Guitar/Percussion), Richard Morgan (Backing Vocals/Guitar), Duncan Waugh (Violin) and Sam Bennett (Bass). Recently Charlie Slade (Cajon/Percussion) has joined the band for live shows to help create a fuller sound.
The origins of the band can be traced back to the first 3 weeks of University. Luckily, James, Duncan and Rich had all moved into the same hall of residence in their first year - Founders Hall. After a couple of Jam sessions they decided to start writing together and this culminated in 'Don't Leave', the first song the band ever wrote together - on the first band practice they ever had as a three piece.
This set the tone for the future and in their first year at University the band had already written over 10 original songs and played numerous shows around campus. Highlights were the first gig at Crosslands Unplugged and the first time the band played at Royal Holloway's Student Union.
In February of 2005 the band decided that they had enough material to put some their ideas down onto CD and so with the help of Lawrence Obertelli the first E.P entitled 'The Dust Has Settled' was born. (See Discography) The E.P was received well around the University and sold out of its original 100 copy run, however due to the time consuming nature of producing the CD's whilst studying the CD used more as an experiment with recording.
Sam joined the band in Autumn 2005 and his bass playing added a new dynamic to the bands sound. This opened up new opportunities for writing songs which ultimately culminated in the bass led track 'Home' amongst others.
Songs were continuously written throughout the Spring and Summer of 2006 and the band started to gain more popularity around University by playing at every venue the campus had to offer. The band also ventured into London for the first time by playing gigs at the Battersea Arts Centre.
In early 2007 enough new songs had been written and played live to warrant recording a new record. With the help of Dylan Fowler the band recorded what is to be their debut 8 track album. 'First in the Queue, Last in Line' is a much truer reflection of how the band sounds and has already been praised by numerous people. This album will be available to download from May 2007 with the CD copy being available around June 2007.
From here on in James, Rich and Duncan are all leaving university whilst Sam is staying for another year, however the band will remain and continue to play live over the next weeks and months. This is only the start for us, we really want to make a go of it.
